Knitting Software

I have Knitware Design which I have used to draft sweater patterns in the past.   I have to investigate how to make my version work with Windows 7 and see what updates are out there.

Show Notes

Projects on the Needles

Prayer Shawl

Elegant Comfort Shawl by Lion Brand Yarn.  It is rectangular shawl with only a two row pattern repeat.    I am using Phentex Galaxie which is a DK weight yarn.    It is 30% acrylic/ 30% wool / 29% viscose / 11% polyester.  I am using it doubled and using a US 10 ½ (6.5 mm) Clover Takumi Bamboo circular needle.

Socks

Opal Yarn on US Size 1 (2.25 mm) Hiya Hiya 2 circulars on 64 stitches.

Portland Sweater by Valley Yarns

I am using Valley Yarns Rainbow which is 100% wool.    For the cuffs and waist edge, I am using Woolease Sportweight (80% acrylic / 20% wool) in the Dark Rose Heather colorway.    I have 10 skeins of the Rainbow which is in the Neptune colorway.   I bought that at the Webs tent sale summer of 2010.    The woolease is from the stash.

Skywalker Shawl by Laura Nelkin

I am on the Planet stitch.   I find that I watch the video row by row.   In other words, watch Laura Nelkin knit a row.   Stop the video.   Knit the row.

App of the week

JKnit Lite (free)   I am using this app on my iTouch to read the Laura Nelkin pattern which was part of the course materials for her video class on Craftsy.com.    I emailed myself the pattern.   I opened that email on my iTouch.    I opened the attachment using JKnits.    There is a highlighter bar which shows two rows of the chart.    BIG HUGE HELP on the Planet stitch.    There is a store available with some patterns at Knitpoint.com.   There is also a JKnits Pro app which  is $9.99 which has cool features like row by row instructions, etc.   Check out the link for more information.

Dad's Red Titan Vest.   The yarn is Mary Maxim Titan.   The pattern is from Crystal Palace Yarns.

Giants Hat.   The yarn is Lion Brand Fun.   The chart for the NY is from Mandy Powers.

Craft Yarn Council

Yarn Standards - includes not only the 1 - 6 weight systems, but terminology, skill levels, and sizing with the idea of unifying presentation of said system by the knitting and crochet industry.

Possible K.A.L./C.A.L. - So far it has been suggested that the Citron might be a fun pattern to try.     Put your suggestions at the thread in the podcast group on Ravelry.com.

The Knook from Leisure Arts - a crochet hook with a hole in one end threaded with a cord which allows you to make a knitted fabric.    Has anyone used it?   Are you primarily a crocheter or a knitter or do you consider yourself both?    Was it easy to learn and use?   What projects have you made with it?

K.A.L./C.A.L. thread in the Knits Up? Podcast group over on Ravelry.com

All members of the podcast group will be put into a drawing for a pattern from their wish list on Ravelry.com.    We are keeping this at $10 U.S. or less.    It is my way of "paying it forward" after receiving a gift of the Hitchhiker pattern set from Kandiland on Ravelry.   Let's make the date I pick the name on February 2, 2012 (Groundhog Day!).

What about the other 99%, hard working largely ignored yarns, in your stash?

We always hear about the 1%, the new purchases, shiny, limited, and pretty.

This is a show dedicated to the 99%.

(Obviously, I am using this language tongue in cheek. ;)
